Ecuador has thirty-five volcanoes, including eight active ones and eight that are permanently snow-capped. Ecuador also contains the highest peak of the Equatorial Andes, Chimborazo which rises more than 6,310 meters above sea level. By several estimates, Chimborazo is the furthest point from the center of the earth due to the equatorial bulge at the planet’s center. Moreover, Ecuador is also home to the highest active volcano on Earth - Cotopaxi at 5,897 meters.
In addition to the many spectacular volcanoes, a voyage to the Ecuadorian highlands offers the traveler a succession of landscapes with an infinity of sight seeing possibilities. Majestic mountains, such as Iliniza, Antisana, Cayambe, and Altar, as well as fertile valleys, amazing waterfalls, lakes and lagoons and ancient human settlements can be found throughout the Ecuadorian Andes
